The negatives of building miniatures

Image by Kerstin Riemer from Pixabay

I feel I have a love / hate relationship with miniatures. And it’s because of this feeling towards miniatures that I can go for months without building miniatures.

Here are the reasons why it can be a negative experience:

It falls apart in your hands

When building a chair for example, you hold the furniture in place, count twenty seconds, put the chair to the side and it falls apart.

Or after you have built the first chair, while the second chair is falling apart your hand accidentally hits the first chair and now both have fallen apart.

Now repeat this five times.

Glue is messy to work with

Expect glue to be every where. All over your fingers and all over your board. I normally use card board but get embarrassed when shooting YouTube videos at littlemissmel23 and the cardboard has glue all over it from past miniature DIY creations.

Patience when building miniatures

I do not have a lot of it. But when building miniatures, you really do need a lot of patience. Just remember it doesn’t matter how it looks now, it matters how it looks at the end. So best to make that little flower pot as perfect as possible, because if everything looks good then the whole miniature at the end will look amazing.

Time

The process of gluing takes time. From furniture to decorations. If a piece requires more than two parts of gluing, then expect to glue more the next day of the same object. Glue can take 12 - 24 hours to dry properly, so do not pick up the miniature object until it is set to continue with gluing the next part.

Gluing fabric onto fabric

I personally hate gluing fabric onto fabric. Why? Because instead of normal craft glue, I have to use fabric glue. This means, I have to wear gloves and the glue is sticky and hot and sticks your glove fingers together. It’s a tricky glue and for something so tiny, it is just plain difficult to work with.

Please comment below, What do you struggle with, when building miniatures?

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...

Paint by numbers revival

For a few years, a few years ago (lol), I did some paint by numbers. I really enjoyed the painting and the end result looks amazing.  I have quite a lot of hobbies now and my last two paint by numbers I never finished. I think because some of the paint had dried, because I left the painting too long at times and the other painting I just didn’t enjoy the picture, so they didn’t get completed. I then got distracted with new hobbies such as diamond painting, which is similar to paint by numbers. With diamond painting you match the drill to the number to create a picture.  However, I have redecorated my home and put up my finished paint by numbers. So I decided to try another one. A few years ago, I had to buy the wooden frame with the canvas and build it together but now you have the option to buy a ready frame, where the company puts the frame and canvas together for you.  My most recent purchase is this beautiful image:  If you are interested, please find the ...
