Why you should scrapbook

I have only been doing for scrapbooking for about a year but I absolutely love it. Here’s why you should take it up:

Photos

So I got a new phone and lost about half of my photos and videos from last year, even though I am paying for the iCloud. It’s ok, it’s just a harsh reality of using technology. I also save my photos to a hard drive, another downfall because that could break and then all my photos will be lost. So what’s the best way to ensure photos are kept - by printing them. I really believe this. And then worst case scenario if you have a fire and lose your printed photos, you still have the photos electronically and you can start again.

I worked out that for about 12,000 photos at 10c each to be printed, it will cost about $1200. But 12,000 photos is a lot and you would have to go through the ones you actually want to print which could drop it by half and that’s now $600.

Now you don’t have to pay for it in one large hit and to be honest the printing service I use, the maximum to print at one time is 250 photos. So it’s ok to put aside money each pay and then print x amount of photos each time. There is no race here.

Then based on the year, I have a spiral art book for about $4. A4 size and I paste the years photos into that. And then I start on the scrapbooking.

Supplies are fun to shop for

I love shopping for scrapbooking supplies and usually go bulk. I shop mostly at AliExpress because for me, they have a huge range of supplies, whereas other stores may only have five or ten different scrapbooking paper, AliExpress will literally have hundreds. It’s also cheaper than most stores. But shop where you like.

And enjoy the browsing process. Also look for themes. For example, I have mermaid scrapbooking paper, mermaid tape and mermaid stickers. If I am going to buy supplies that’s what I will buy- scrapbooking paper, tape and stickers. Some people try other things as well like feathers, rubber stamps and even gold dust which is fun to work with. You might even want coloured pens or felt pens so you can write hand written sayings, quotes or memories from the photos.

Themes are great but you don’t have to stick to a theme. And when buying, think of the photos you are going to scrapbook. For example travel photos, you could theme your supplies to travelling, such as airplane stickers and suitcase scrapbooking paper. You can definitely get some cute designs.

It’s the same, if you have baby photos, you can get cute teddy bear scrapbooking paper and baby stickers like baby bottles etc in pastel blue or pink colours.

You literally just type into AliExpress what theme you want and they will most likely have it.

Other themes are Harry Potter, Pokémon, Stitch, anything Disney related, Super Mario and then for more generic theming, you could do flowers, or mermaids or a particular colour that you love.

Then in terms of getting started.

I open my page to scrapbook. I pull out the scrapbooking paper I want, the stickers and the washi tape that I want to use for the paper and start placing it around and sometimes on the photos to create a cool and fun page.

I hope that helps you on your new journey of scrapbooking.

Reshuffling my craft space for scrapbooking

When you feel uninspired change up your craft space  So I haven’t been scrapbooking as much because I have a set of drawers with stickers, washi tape and other cool stationery and then I have my tub of scrapbooking paper in my cupboard.  I was thinking about what I could do to bring my scrapbooking closer. Here’s a photo of my tub of scrapbooking paper. Look how undesirable it looks. Inside I have large paper about A4 size and A3. Then I have 12x12 inch paper. Plus an ice cream tub full of scrap paper.  It just made me feel unsatisfied and what makes me excited to work on a hobby is that I can see the resources and get excited to get started. But this set-up was not empowering me. I started brainstorming about maybe making a craft space. I found a table from IKEA with draws on both sides that I could put my scrapbooking paper and accessories in as well as my diamond painting. I also found a desk backing which is like a three level high shelving that attaches to the table....

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
