I’m addicted to crocheting

Hi, I’m Mel and I’m addicted to crocheting.

Are you addicted?

This is how I found out I am addicted to crocheting. I can look around my living room and I have a huge tub of yarn. I also have a huge shelf filled with six levels of yarn. I still need to buy more colours. I still feel like I don’t have enough yarn. But it’s taking me a while to use the yarn I have. The first tub of yarn I bought it for different projects but have moved on, so I don’t have a real plan of what to use this yarn for. The shelf of six layers of yarn is for actual projects I’m working on.

Now let’s talk projects, I just would like to say firstly, that I do finish crocheting projects. I have another tub filled with plushies and arigumani I have made. But again, what do I do with them now I have made them? I have also made multiple adult sized blankets and adult scarves.

So back to projects in progress: 2x blankets. I was working on one for myself a pretty pink white yarn. And then my sister asked for a blanket so I figured I would stop crocheting my blanket for the next few months and focus on my sister’s instead. So I have a quarter of a pink and white blanket made and a very thin, white blanket just beginning.

I crochet scarves on the train and I have crochet five complete scarves but also have two in progress. One is a thick white yarn and the other is a royal blue yarn. At this current time, I am taking the royal blue yarn with me on my way to work to complete on public transport. And once I finish the blue one, I will then go back to the white one. But I think I wore on scarf for a week during winter in Australia. It hasn’t been as cold as normal so I haven’t been wearing scarves so I’m not sure if I will continue to crochet scarves? But if I don’t, then what will I crochet on my trip to work? Please comment below, if you have any suggestions.

At nights and weekends, I crochet arigumani and plushies. I have to focus for this and count stitches so instead of big projects, I have found some smaller projects that only taking 30 minutes to crochet like suns and hearts. I crochet 20 suns. Either to sell or to gift my colleagues at work. And now I have crocheted four hearts but I might as well crochet 20 and try to sell them or give them away. But as I said earlier, my tub of crochet items is full! So I have listed some crochet items such as koalas, gnomes, ice creams and suns for sale. Because the stuffing does decrease over time so there is no point me holding onto them.

So to sum it up, I have two blankets to crochet and two scarves and my project of crocheting 20 hearts, just 16 to go! Am I addicted? I don’t know and I don’t care! I love crocheting and I’m sure you do. It’s relaxing and it’s a time filler and I make something at the end! I have given hand made crocheting arigumani to my family and friends and people love these items so why not give more?

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...
