What you need for diamond painting

Diamond painting is a fun hobby. It’s so relaxing, without having to think too hard about it. You can just create a picture with diamonds. A sparkly result is definitely very cool.

So what do you need for diamond painting and what is nice to have if you decide to stick with it.

*please note I am using affiliate links with AliExpress.com within this blog post. This means if you purchase what I recommend in the blog post I receive a percentage from the seller.

The good news is diamond painting comes in a kit.

Normally, a small diamond holder. (They call the diamonds drills but if you prefer diamonds stick with that). Plus, a pen and some wax. You dip the pen into wax and then stick the pen into the drill holder and then place the drill onto the coloured number on the picture.

So you have the basics in the kit. Now if you do one full picture of diamond painting and enjoy the hobby, here are some other ideas to support you when diamond painting:

Buy a lamp for diamond painting

It can be hard to see the numbers on the picture so having a lamp over the diamond painting helps. Any sort of extra lighting.

Buy a ruler for diamond painting

Now there are two types of shaped drills your diamond kit can have: circles or squares. If you like to diamond paint with circles, you can buy a special diamond painting metal circle holed ruler. So when doing lots of the same colour in one section, you can place the ruler on the diamond painting and add the drills into the holes of the ruler. Lift up the ruler and you have the same distanced apart drills.

Buy a flat elevated piece of wooden easel

If you buy a flat elevated piece of wood easel, your back shouldn’t hurt as much because you won’t be slouching over your diamond painting compared to diamond painting on a flat table or desk. A sore back and neck is one of the biggest complaints across diamond painters.

Buy frames for your finished diamond paintings

You don’t have to spend a fortune. You can find brand new photo frames at second hand stores. But it is cool to see your diamond paintings finished and placed in your home for all to see. And most importantly, for you to see. It also depends how big your diamond paintings are. For example, I once did an 60 x 80 sized diamond painting and I would have a hard time finding a photo frame for that. But you can find other alternatives for much larger sized diamond paintings.

Have storage for your diamond paintings

I don’t have too many about ten diamond paintings to be done and I have finished about 5-10 diamond paintings. So you need to find a space for them. I have the finished ones in a tub and the ones to start on my shelf to remind me of my cool hobby. So work out how many you want to buy to start with. Trust me when I say, I have seen some outstanding diamond painting stashes that some buyers definitely need to consider their storage needs before purchasing. It is fun buying them, when there are so many cool and different pictures to choose from.

Buy a drill container compartment for diamond painting

If you buy anything extra for diamond painting this would be my first choice. A compartment to put your diamond drills in, which has little drill containers inside the compartment is great so you can take away with you on holiday. But also they don’t just spill every where because there are lids. And you can separate each one. Add a label for what the number is and place the drills inside.

If you don’t want this just yet, you could use zip lock bags for each coloured drill to separate them.

So I hope you like my ideas on what to get for your diamond painting.

Reshuffling my craft space for scrapbooking

When you feel uninspired change up your craft space  So I haven’t been scrapbooking as much because I have a set of drawers with stickers, washi tape and other cool stationery and then I have my tub of scrapbooking paper in my cupboard.  I was thinking about what I could do to bring my scrapbooking closer. Here’s a photo of my tub of scrapbooking paper. Look how undesirable it looks. Inside I have large paper about A4 size and A3. Then I have 12x12 inch paper. Plus an ice cream tub full of scrap paper.  It just made me feel unsatisfied and what makes me excited to work on a hobby is that I can see the resources and get excited to get started. But this set-up was not empowering me. I started brainstorming about maybe making a craft space. I found a table from IKEA with draws on both sides that I could put my scrapbooking paper and accessories in as well as my diamond painting. I also found a desk backing which is like a three level high shelving that attaches to the table....

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
