As I have mentioned previously, as a writer and having a
different full time job, I have to make sure I do some hobbies at least once a
week. Just 30-60 minutes. This helps me relax and feel good and that’s how
hobbies should make us feel. It also helps with burnout.
So when at work generally, I ask someone what they do for
fun, I get a range of responses but mainly the response is, I don’t know.
Whereas if some one asked me what I do for fun, the list is endless –
crocheting, scrapbooking, diamond painting, writing and the list goes on.
Because the last thing you want to do, is work all day and
all week and then come home and not do anything all weekend. Although, that may
be needed occasionally, a fix in front of the TV or mobile, But all the time, you
could spend just 30 minutes scrapbooking an art book or crocheting a sun
arigumani.
That’s why I love hobbies and have so many of them, because
I can literally decide how long I want to spend on a hobby for the day and then
choose which hobby I feel like doing.
For example, this morning (it’s Sunday) and I have spent 2 -3
hours writing 4 blog posts. This is great, because I write every second
weekend, so to be so focussed on a Sunday morning is pretty epic.
I started to write my 5th blog post (I am aiming
to write 12 this weekend) and I realised I needed a break.
So I did some dancing (also considered to be a hobby by the
way) to move my body, since I have been sitting for a few hours. Then I decided
to do some of my diamond painting. This diamond painting has been sitting their
for months and the wax on it, is still going strong! I don’t feel guilty for
this, I just needed a break from diamond painting while I focussed on
crocheting and scrapbooking. This happens with hobbies, you tend to focus on
one or two more than the others, than a few months later, change it up a bit
and there is nothing wrong with that!
Now, I am back to do some more writing for hopefully a few
more hours to either finish my blog posts in one go or have another break….oooo
maybe lunch.
And if you do work for yourself make sure you make time for
some hobby fun. But if you work full time, just 30 minutes as a bare minimum to
get into the hobby spirit and you might find yourself extending that timeframe
as the day goes on. Or coming back to it multiple times over the weekend.
This also applies if you are studying, make time for some
hobby fun. And if you are a stay at home parent, looking after the children.
Get your children involved in your hobby as well and have them craft with you,
so you don’t miss out!
Also, in your lunch break, or one your way home from work or
study, look up places for where to buy your hobby resources from.
Shopping online, or browsing can be a great way to unwind.
Need scrapbooking resources, go shopping to have a look for them. Need a new
diamond painting? Go window shopping online and choose what you want and how
many!
In terms of shopping, I do try to keep it in the cart for a
few days to see if I actually still want it by then. Normally I do! But yes,
you don’t have to buy, just enjoy the process of shopping for your hobby.
Because then you will be more invested in completing your hobby.
The reason you may want to start a hobby. Here are some of my previous blog posts on
hobbies for beginners, such as crocheting, scrapbooking, diamond painting.
Is because hobbies:
- Help you unwind.
- Just focus on the present.
- Help you relax.
- Make you feel good inside.
So why not start a hobby today!
