Why buy a crochet kit?

Crochet kits are fun for beginners and all levels. See a cute crochet kit or find a crochet kit that you know if you make it, your family member or friend will love to receive it as a gift. Crochet kits are starting to become popular in some stores and some stores even have new and different crochet kits change frequently so you always have a fresh kit ready and waiting.

Here are five reasons to buy a crochet kit

1. A crochet kit has everything you need to crochet the pattern (including the pattern itself)

A crochet kit has everything for someone who is already familiar at crocheting even at a beginner level. If you know the stitches and can read a pattern, then you can use a crochet kit.

Crochet kit comes with everything you need for crocheting. This includes, a crochet hook, yarn of the colours in the pattern, vacuum sealed inside fluff when crocheting your object and a sewing needle to sew the parts together to create the final product. Plus the most important part and that is the pattern to use to create your chosen object.

2. You can get some fun designs from crochet kits

When looking to buy a crochet kit, I don’t just buy one crochet item in a kit, although I do if I find it absolutely adorable but I also buy kits that have multiple objects in one kit. It may be a little more expensive but if you like more than one item in the kit, then it’s worth it to buy it.

I bought one kit that has koalas, kangaroos, some sort of bird (maybe a parrot) and a turtle. I love this kit so much and have made everything but the bird, that I lost my pattern book for it and thankfully they had it in stock a year later from when I bought it and so I bought it again.

I have also bought some pre-Christmas crochet kits which I won’t share with you yet. I have also bought a cat, jellyfish, llama … ok you get the idea. The truth is I have bought so many crochet kits, I don’t exactly remember what I have.

Which brings me to my next point

3. Crochet kits make great gifts to yourself

I don’t know about you but I don’t know many people who crochet. But I love buying crochet kits for myself to go towards a birthday or Christmas gift. I don’t think it’s a sad thing to do, to buy yourself a gift to celebrate.

4. Crochet kits are at a good price

Crochet kits are good because they aren’t super expensive. You can get a whole kit between $5-10 AUD. I haven’t seen a crochet kit any higher than that price in Australia and that includes the big one that included four Aussie animals to crochet.

You could budget in a crochet kit for one a month or even one every six months and just master the one you have already.

5. Crochet kits are good to practice with

If you want to perfect a particular pattern, having a pattern and a kit with everything in it, helps you create the object the first time. From there, if you want to make it a few times as gifts maybe, then you get to choose the coloured yarn to buy. So your turtle could be pink skinned with a light brown shell, or it could be green skinned with a dark green shell, or it could be beige skinned with a brown shell. There are so many choices you can choose from to create your cool turtle. Plus, because you have the kit, you have everything else already.

A little tip, when I started crocheting I bought cushion filling now I buy two really cheap pillows for around $5 AUD and use that as filling. Double the amount of filling for cheaper the price.

I just put the opened pillow in the cupboard when I am finished using it for crocheting for the day.

So that’s my cool 5 reasons to buy a crochet kit. Plus it’s just super fun to make!

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...

I crocheted my first scarf

If you are a subscriber to my hobbies YouTube channel @littlemissmel23, last week I posted a video on how to crochet a scarf. I couldn’t show the end result because it was already a long video, so I decided to show you on my blog. I have added the video to this blog post if you are interested in watching it for the pattern.  The final result: The final result is quite good I feel. I did a thin scarf and I ran out of pink yarn so I decided to add white. I’m quite proud of this scarf. I am going to play with the sizing and in particular the width of the scarf.  Now my kids have seen the first scarf, they are wanting me to make them one as well. They even chose the coloured yarn they want. One wants black and then white like my pink and white one pictured. And my other son wants a combination of blue white yarn.  As per the video, I plan to crochet 5-7 scarves for myself so I can wear one each day and change the scarf colour pending the outfit.  Scarf crocheting ...
