How do you know you could be a writer?

Here are four ways to know you could be a writer …

You can’t stop writing

I remember I just resigned from this awful job and I scored this new job the same day I quit (pretty lucky). The new job was fine, a lot of photocopying. So I started to write a story on paper while I was photocopying. Nobody seemed to notice me in the photocopying room or even that I was enjoying writing a story.

But yes, if you can’t stop writing take that as a good sign that you are actually meant to be a writer! Writing is the foundation of your success, so keep writing and don’t let anything stop you. Write wherever you are. Its so much easier with mobiles now. You don’t need to carry around an exercise book that I would take with me everywhere, on public transport, to the park … everywhere.

2.       You think of cool ideas as you travel

While you are on public transport or the passenger in the car, you mind might start creating cool people, cool locations or cool stories. If you can write it down. It doesn’t matter, if it’s a personality type of a character, or quotes of what you would think they would say. Just write it down. And if you can’t in the moment, remember as much as you can and write it down as soon as you can.

Your imagination is an awesome place to dive into. Just immerse yourself in your imagination and watch your new world create itself. Then add some drama or edginess and you have a cool story. Make it everything but don’t not publish it. Its so easy these days to publish. Publish yourself and then guess what … then you can work on your next project and then the next and then the next …. Don’t stop, just keep writing and having fun creating stories.

3.       You like to hear about people’s stories

Yes, you find yourself listening intently to people’s stories. You ask them nosey questions, like “How did you both meet?” “At what point did you realise she was the one?” Especially coming from a romance writer, I need to know the romance in their lives and in their story. So I do ask pretty pivotal questions that make people smile and blush as they remember the most romantic stories of their lives. It’s pretty special and an amazing moment. So if you find yourself getting nosey and asking questions about people’s lives, yes, you are probably a writer.

4.       You can’t stop talking about writing

When you love something, you find you can’t stop talking about… sometimes people have no interest in what you are interested in and that’s where we write about it. I don’t have many friends who I can talk their ears off about hobbies, because my friends just aren’t into it. So I started a YouTube channel, which I eventually stopped and then I started my hobbies blog, which I love because I get to write about what I would speak about to another person who is interested in the same topic.

So if you want to start a blog, choose a topic you could literally talk about for hours, a few times a week.

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...
