How to store your pre-Christmas creations

So the festive season is here and you may have spent some months before Christmas, crafting to gift for the holidays. I know I have! But also, you may find ... you need more time ... This is also the case for me because I don't want to be finished. The joy of Christmas crafting is fun and if you have the time, you can really let it take up most of days before Christmas.

It is that beautiful feeling, when you spent time making something that when you go to give your handmade gift, the look of appreciation from that person, makes you feel even more special. So handmaking something for someone, makes the gift receiver and yourself just feel nice. And there is nothing wrong with feeling pretty good about something you made and now gifting.

So you have all this pre-Christmas creations and some are bulky, some are thin and small and you don't want to lose ... you need a place to put it all.

"First of all I would get a storage tub. Maybe 2 storage tubs."

Storage tubs are filled in my craft home. I have tubs for everything. From scrapbooked albums, to a tub of paints and even a tub of yarn ... I have more yarn not in the tub, but that's ok.

So grab a tub and place all of your home-made Christmas gifts inside. If you are worried about small items, like homemade gift tags, place them in a zip lock bag and then put them in the tub. A tub, which may not sound like a beautiful storage item, what it does is create a dust-free environment. If you have the gift in your kitchen, anything could accidentally get spilled on it. Or if it falls off a bench, it could get trampled on and dirty. In a tub, it stays the way it was finished. Clean.

Place your bulky gifts at the bottom. Such as a crocheted blanket (it might take half the tub). Add the smaller items, at the top or the sides.

Now if you are handmaking Christmas decorations for your home ... get another tub. (Ok, I admit, I have a tub problem. I'm sure in the New Year, we can tackle decluttering!) But for now, place your Christmas decorations in a separate tub. So when you go to decorate your home, you have everything right there and you aren't opening different tubs from some decorations in one tub and other decorations mixed somewhere else with gifts. Plus, you decorate before you give gifts mostly.

If you are like me and already have decorations on your display spaces, place these items in the Christmas handmade decorating tub and swap them out for the Christmas handmade decorations. So you don't have too much competing for your eye. And then after Christmas, just swap it all back and then you will have a tub for your Christmas decorations for the year.

You will need to work out what days you are gifting and what you are gifting. For example, I made crocheted hearts from my female friends at work and crocheted suns for the male friends at work. I won't be there on Christmas day, so I have to work out the last day I am in and bring it in then. I have to make sure my hearts and suns are ready and packed. Maybe bring the second last day, just in case I forget I have another day back-up.

Other gifts to my family, will be given on Christmas day. And personally, my home decorations will be set-up on 1st December or somewhat close to. Because I want to enjoy the 25 days of Christmas with my handmade Christmas Decorations.

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...
