How to take your hobbies on holidays

It’s holiday time and sometimes that means travelling by car, airplane, ferry or bus to get to where you are going. Oh did I also mention a train? So many options, so much time, so much fun to be filled.

Also, you need something when you are there late at night when you want to sit on the balcony and watch your beautiful surroundings while keeping your hands busy and doing a hobby you enjoy.

On this blog presently, I mainly focus on hobbies such as crocheting, scrapbooking, diamond painting, reading and writing. However, sometimes I talk about other hobbies these are the main ones I write about and will focus on in this blog post.

Holidays and crocheting

So let’s start with crocheting. Here are your options, you can take yarn, a crochet hook and a yarn bag to crochet some scarves. You can do this as a passenger as you travel to your holiday destination and also during your holiday.

What I wouldn’t take: a half made blanket. A half made blanket is heavy and takes a quarter to a half of a suitcase. Plus, if you are travelling on multiple travel ways, such as a train and bus, you will want to travel lighter.

You could take a crochet kit as it has everything you need to crochet the item, once. But I also wouldn’t do this while travelling because personally, I have to really focus and count stitches so I would leave it for when I had a few free hours during your holiday not the travel to the holiday.

Holidays and scrapbooking

Personally, I find that I would have to take a lot of supplies for even one or two pages of scrapbooking while on holiday. I also wouldn’t do scrapbooking on any travel except for the airplane but even then if someone needs to go past you, you will have to quickly move all of your supplies.

So I suggest, you take eight stickers, eight pieces of scrapbooking paper, and one or two washi tapes. Plus scissors and glue and the album you want to scrapbook in

This should be enough supplies to scrapbook two pages.

Please note: some travel places won’t allow scissors, such as an airplane. So look into this before you leave for holidays. Otherwise you just brought all these tools and nothing to cut it up with.

Holidays and diamond painting

If you have ever done diamond painting before, you would know you can’t diamond paint while travelling. You need a flat surface which a train or bus doesn’t offer and you need a space for the tiny bags filled with the drills. It’s just easy to get lost.

So if you really wanted to take on holidays with you. Take a diamond painting bag, which fits everything in except the picture. Try and put the diamond painting itself at the top of your suitcase so it stays flat.

Once you have arrived to your holiday destination, diamond paint to your hearts content.

Holidays and reading

Reading is a fun hobby to have and it’s easy to travel with. Reading you can buy an ebook so you can download as many books as your heart desires. Or you can pack one or two books for your holiday.

Reading during travel is dependent on if you get motion sickness. Somethings like a bus it’s hard to read a book on without feeling sick. But travelling by train or plane is the perfect way to read and watch time fly. (Like my pun?)

Also, if you like to read before bed, you can do so easily on your holiday. So I highly recommend taking a book or download some ebooks on your holiday.

For some ebooks, check out my ebooks available for purchase, ranging from fiction to non-fiction.

Holidays and writing

Ok, so here you have an expert writing this who loves writing. Yes, you can take your writing hobby with you. You can buy a little notepad and pen and take it with you on the airplane or train and write away.

You can write in the morning once you arrive to your holiday destination, while the rest of the household is sleeping. You have so much more inspiration to write, when away on holidays because you are visiting a new location or one you haven’t visited in a while.

So your thoughts will be thriving in this new environment, ready to be written.

Also, you can use your phone if you don’t want to take a notebook and either use notes in your phone or documents and use a similar version of word. When you get home email it to yourself and put it on the platform you are using if you want the world to see it.

So yes, some hobbies are easy to take on holidays, some hobbies are hard to do while travelling to your holiday. And some hobbies you can do almost anywhere.

I hope this helps prepare you for your holiday travels.

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...
