Merry Christmas Eve - finalising your Christmas craft

Christmas Eve is so special. Whether you have children too excited to sleep or you are just preparing for extended family tomorrow. Finalising Christmas presents is a tradition on Christmas Eve.

If you bought my book- Melanie Toye’s Handmade Christmas Craft. You will have made or still making some cool Christmas gift tags, Christmas cards and maybe even Christmas bags to name some of the crafts in the book.

So the special part is turning on some Christmas music. Wrapping the Christmas gifts and adding on those handmade Christmas crafts. It just makes the Christmas Eve night so special as you get to see the magic happen- yes you part of the magic because you took the time to craft for Christmas. Homemade Christmas craft is just super special, especially when received on an already magical Christmas Day.

I normally sit on the ground, as I wrap Christmas gifts and add the special handmade touches. I just find I have more room than sitting at a table. I can literally have every item on the ground and line them up to wrap. And place it in the Santa bags once I have wrapped each gift.

And if you haven’t already, prepare your Christmas table and other Christmas decorations around the home. Sometimes, we don’t want to set the table etc until the morning but the morning you will be busy watching your children or family opening gifts. So plan ahead and set the table the night before.

Take photos of everything you have prepared. Whether it’s the gifts pile under the Christmas tree and your Christmas table and decorations around the home. Trust me, you will want memories pre the mess of Christmas.

Make sure you take a couple of breaks as you are setting up for the big day. Santa’s drink and biscuits aren’t for nothing. Even if you don’t have kids, sit down for 10-15minutes to just rest and relax. Christmas isn’t about rushing.

Now, if you are celebrating Christmas by yourself. Have no fear, wrap your own gifts. Obviously you know what they are but who cares! It’s still exciting to open them on Christmas Day. Why not decorate your home with your Christmas creations? There is still time to crochet something Christmassy or decorate your own Christmas wrapping.

And you can definitely decorate your Christmas table for a special breakfast in the morning. Even if you have no special Christmas food prepared. Use your Christmas tree decorations to add some magic to your table. Trust me, it might just be another day but it doesn’t mean you don’t have to make it special for yourself.

So now you have prepared for Christmas, take a breath. Smile. And experience the magic on Christmas Day.

Here at Melanie Toye’s hobbies, I am wishing you and your family a magical Christmas.

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...
