What I have crocheted this year

Well after a year of crocheting blankets, scarves and pretty intermediate arigumani, at the start of the year I decided why not crochet something super simple?

So I decided to crochet 20 suns.

I like my suns. They only took 30 minutes to crochet for each one and I got the pattern for free on a Facebook group. Normally, those free patterns don’t work, so it’s always a risk whether I should waste my time on them.

But the suns are really quite simple, because it’s just a circle, with some stuffing and then you crochet the outside rim and sew it on. I really liked this and crocheting it 20 times means I got familiar with the pattern.

I found doing a simple and quick pattern meant I built my confidence. I did think to sell them around Christmas time for people, who like to buy every class mate a tiny gift. But have decided to give them away. As a gift of sunshine when the person looks at it.

Also, I may use the suns to practice faces on before I gift them. I’m not very confident doing faces, so using 20 and trying to make each one fairly different would be ideal.

To follow my suns, I decided to crochet some hearts for Christmas gifts as well. I liked the idea that there was no sewing involved at all. Just crochet and add some filling.

I crocheted six hearts of different colours

I really enjoyed crocheting the hearts (another free pattern just by googling it). I asked my friends what their favourite colours are and will be giving it to them for Christmas. Super special. Plus my friends do love my crocheting so it is a good homemade gift to make them.

I crochet pumpkins

For Halloween, I decided I wanted to crochet some pumpkins. Pumpkins are super fun. Finding orange yarn seems difficult. I normally pay AUD $2.50 for one thing of yarn. But I paid AUD $5.50 for this orange yarn! Anyway, it is softer but I won’t be stocking up from that store.

My pumpkins are super cute. And again, I used a free pattern. The picture shows two different pumpkins but really it was the same pattern, it’s just the smaller one, I missed a whole section of single crochet stitches and it ended up smaller. But I love them both and think they look cute together. Another reason to not just chuck out one of the pumpkins because it doesn’t match the other one you made. Remember, nobody knows the pattern and it’s handmade so two of the same crochet items can look different.

I crochet a unicorn

So, I also had a paid pattern for a unicorn. I tried it three times and it just wasn’t coming together. So I found a free online pattern and it worked!

It is quite big considering all of my other augimani. This does stress me out when crocheting because I don’t know till the end if it will look good.

But I am so proud of the end result. It’s super cute. The sewing does scare me a bit but it looks good and I am not really bad at sewing on arms and legs. It’s just trying to get it looking even.

I crochet a crocodile

I also crochet a crocodile. I did stuff up the sewing (sigh) and made the head crooked, which then made the face look crooked … but my son loves it. So that’s all that matters. And if I make it again, I’m sure I can sew it better next time. That’s why I like to crochet the pattern more than three times, because each time I learn something to improve for next time.

I crochet a snowman

For Christmas, I crocheted a snowman. It’s cute. I did try to sew a face but it didn’t work so I cut it off and now I just have a plain snowman. Which I am totally fine with.

Looking back on what I made, I thought it would be different. Ha ha. I thought I would have made stuff that I really wanted but I will save that for next year.

Next year, I really want to crochet a rhino, a cloud, a wombat actually I will think about what I want to crochet and let you know next year.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I crocheted this year.

I would love to hear about you made this year, let me know in the comments.

Reshuffling my craft space for scrapbooking

When you feel uninspired change up your craft space  So I haven’t been scrapbooking as much because I have a set of drawers with stickers, washi tape and other cool stationery and then I have my tub of scrapbooking paper in my cupboard.  I was thinking about what I could do to bring my scrapbooking closer. Here’s a photo of my tub of scrapbooking paper. Look how undesirable it looks. Inside I have large paper about A4 size and A3. Then I have 12x12 inch paper. Plus an ice cream tub full of scrap paper.  It just made me feel unsatisfied and what makes me excited to work on a hobby is that I can see the resources and get excited to get started. But this set-up was not empowering me. I started brainstorming about maybe making a craft space. I found a table from IKEA with draws on both sides that I could put my scrapbooking paper and accessories in as well as my diamond painting. I also found a desk backing which is like a three level high shelving that attaches to the table....

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
