3 creative habits for the weekend ahead

So I used to create craft time every second weekend and that weekend I would just craft, for hours, well really over 2 full days. Now I craft whenever I want. But if you struggle to craft, you need to block at time, even an hour on the weekend and just do it. Maybe even wake up an hour before everyone in your home and start crafting!

So here are 5 creative habits for the weekend ahead:

1. Take out your craft supplies and then put them away

When I want to do a craft, I simply take out my resources for that craft. Get my craft space ready and make sure, I have a glass of water nearby. Then when I am ready to start, it's all there ready for me and waiting.

Most importantly, as soon as I finish the craft, I put everything away. This may seem silly, because I may want to do more in the same day or the next day. But by putting everything away, if I change my mind later to not go back to that craft, it's already put away and I don't have to worry about it.

If for example, I do want to have more time doing that craft later. I just pull it out again.

It's about leaving your space tidy, which leaves your mind in a creative state and not a stressed one. This is really important for the creative person, which is you. Even if you have a craft room and can shut the door behind you. It is always ideal to put it all away after use.

2. Choose one hobby to do over the weekend

I have heaps of hobbies. Sometimes/Most times, I want to work on all of them over the weekend. The truth is, if you want to spend a decent amount of time on one hobby, you shouldn't feel pressure from yourself to finish it quickly to move onto the next one.

A hobby is one to be enjoyed and it shouldn't matter or make you feel guilty for only working on the one hobby over a weekend.

Also, sometimes one hobby needs more attention than another one. For example, when I used to do miniatures, I would have to let the pieces dry over night from the craft glue. But the miniatures took a lot of space, bascially half a desk and if you tried to move it, it would generally fall apart because the glue wasn't dried.

So I had to be creative in what I would spend time on, while the miniatures were drying. For example, I love scrapbooking on the floor. It sounds weird I know. But when I was a child, I didn't have a desk in my room, so I used to do all my homework, assignments and creative pursuits on the floor and now its stuck with me!

Plus, with scrapbooking, I have some many supplies, I tend to place them on the floor next to me to ensure I have space and go from there.

So choose a hobby you can realistically do and have space for, for as long as you can/want.

3. Spend some time designing your craft space

So we all love our craft space but sometimes we don't have time to think, how could I make this work better for me? Or we find it really annoying how we have a stash of diamond paintings but no where to put them, so they are just in the cupboard.

Get a notebook and write down what currently you want to change in your craft space. Now work out how you can fix it. Do you need more tubs? Do you need draws for the smaller craft items? Think about what you need. Look up Pinterest for craft room storage ideas. Get inspired.

Then go online browsing and add everything you would think that would make your craft space easier to work in and storage for your craft and resources. You don't have to buy it all today, but the online browsing is to get an idea for price. Then workout your craft budget or spendings to see when you may be afford to buy it. This helps you not buy immediately and then regret your decision. Over the next few days, you may have a better idea, so I try not to buy straight away.

Now you have your hobby habits ready for the weekend, time to get inspired! I like Pinterest for fresh ideas and inspiration.

Reshuffling my craft space for scrapbooking

When you feel uninspired change up your craft space  So I haven’t been scrapbooking as much because I have a set of drawers with stickers, washi tape and other cool stationery and then I have my tub of scrapbooking paper in my cupboard.  I was thinking about what I could do to bring my scrapbooking closer. Here’s a photo of my tub of scrapbooking paper. Look how undesirable it looks. Inside I have large paper about A4 size and A3. Then I have 12x12 inch paper. Plus an ice cream tub full of scrap paper.  It just made me feel unsatisfied and what makes me excited to work on a hobby is that I can see the resources and get excited to get started. But this set-up was not empowering me. I started brainstorming about maybe making a craft space. I found a table from IKEA with draws on both sides that I could put my scrapbooking paper and accessories in as well as my diamond painting. I also found a desk backing which is like a three level high shelving that attaches to the table....

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
