5 writing prompts for fiction writers

As a published author, you can see the books I have for sale here, I love just playing around with words.

For example, I have created the 2 day fiction writing retreat at home, which is available from my Etsy store. I feel it's such a cool retreat, designed for you to write. I keep it pretty minimal, so you have time to focus and just write. In a nice inspirational space that you carve out for yourself, with some simple ideas from me on how to prepare your writing space.

So I decided today, how about if I share 5 fiction writing prompts, you can play around with. What is a writing prompt? A writing prompt is where you are provided with a sentence or dialogue for a story and then you take that and write a short story, or a chapter of a book, or even, if you are new to writing, just write a paragraph that relates to the writing prompt.

I have actually created a creative writing prompt eBook for kids who are into creative writing. You can check it out on my books page of where to buy. It's called, Kids, write your own stories by Melanie Toye.

5 fiction writing prompts:

1. Today is my birthday and I would like to celebrate with an evening of watch fireworks. The problem is, I am not rich, nor is my family. So how can I make this happen?

2. Chanelle is seeking a husband, She is looking for a tall, dark, handsome man. Chanelle's problem is, she can't work out what his personality should be like. Funny and sweet? A bad boy type? Sigh.

3. "3,2,1". The announcement has happened and I haven't moved. Why isn't it moving? I take a deep breath. Come on, work.

4. As a detective, I find the clues are really all around us. When tracking Shelby, I have to start at her home. Get an idea of what she likes to surround herself with. I also need to check her social media pages to see where she likes to visit and take photos of. This gives me a clue into who she is.

5. Declan is an Olympic swimmer. He wins all the races. But this year, he has had enough. But what will he do now?

I do hope you enjoyed these cool 5 writing prompts. I also include some writing prompts in my 2-day fiction writing retreat at home product. You simply buy from Etsy and they will automatically send you the digital download. Download it and begin!

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...
