My scrapbooking plan for the New Year

I love scrapbooking but yes I do feel overwhelmed at times. I tend to be very slow at scrapbooking as I find doing about 4 pages at a time, quite creatively exhausting. I also don't spend a lot of time scrapbooking but more buying products for scrapbooking! I love to buy scrapbooking products.

Here is why I am overwhelmed with scrapbooking:

  • I have about 5-10 packets of 250 printed photos, where I need to put into an album... but I don't really know what year the photos are in. I am sure I can work it out, but it takes time.
  • I also have about 3 new albums, which I can put those photos in, but probably need a couple more. Which really is no problem.
  • On top of the new printed photos, yet to be glued into an album. I have 2 1/2 albums that have glued in photos that I need to scrapbook.
  • I also have 16,000 photos to be printed ... do you see the problem?

It's too much. I realised, I print 250 photos a year, which fits one album ... I feel this is too much. In 20 years, I will have so many tubs of albums it will be too much.

So this year's scrapbooking focus:

Complete all of the above. Just do 4 sheets each weekend of scrapbooking. Glue on the weekend of the ones not in the album. Spend a day working out the years the photos have been taken.

Now the new part:

Only print 10-20 photos a year. Makes it much more tricky right! I still keep all the photos I take, which is way more than 10 a year. But also, it reduces the amount of scrapbooking I do, which means it removes the stress of always being behind in scrapbooking. It's like how our parents would only take 10 photos a year, because it was expensive to print them. This way, I choose the best photos I want from the year. The highlights!

This also means, I don't have to buy so many scrapbooking supplies (maybe...it's part of the fun!).

Also what happens to the other photos, not yet printed?

I simply, save them digitally. Personally, I had about 7,000 on icloud. But being on my phone is just too much disorganisation for me. So I have moved them to a hard drive and removed them from my phone. I only have the past 2 years on my phone and I feel like that is plenty. It means there is more space on my phone and if my phone dies, I don't have to worry about lost photos (which has happened before).

Now, you should have at least 2 places to save your digital photos. But I feel, I have printed a lot of them and they are also on hard drive. So for me that is enough! They also don't need to be on my mobile.

It feels like a huge weight has lifted off my shoulders.

Honestly, who is going to look through 40 or more photo albums when you pass? I don't want future generations to be holding onto tubs of photo albums they never look at. I wish I had done this sooner, because I have so many albums already - enough to fill 2 tubs.

Also, if you are wondering about how I will still get my fix for scrapbooking! It is easy. I have a scrapbook A4 art book and each week I post on this blog, some scrapbooking art design page. So I still use my supplies, get my scrapbooking fix and move on. I suggest you try it too if you want to do something similar with your scrapbooking.
