How to create a writing space

A writing space is so important but let me be real, your writing space can change spaces to help keep you inspired and motivated. But if you do want to set up a writing space, let me help you.

So I talk about how to set-up a writing space in my fiction novel online writing course for beginners. But today, let's talk about a writing space.

The reason you should create a writing space is if you have limited time, because you may have another full time job, or study full time or part-time and/or look after children, well time is limited. So the point of creating a writing space is so when you sit down to write, your mind knows it's time to write because it has become a routine, then when you sit in this space you write.

So what can a writing space look like?

Well you need a table and a comfy chair with a high back. I have outdoor chairs as my dining chair, so the chairs lean back, I have to sit up with no support on my back. So I strongly suggest you put some money towards a good chair with a high back or an ergonomic chair. Because, you may be sitting down in this chair for awhile, so best to give your back great support and comfort.

Now you may prefer to write in a notebook or you may prefer to type into your device. If you have a notebook, have two pens on the desk. Trust me, you always need more than one because when you are in a rhythm you don't want one pen to die. (And it will... so have a back-up pen).

I suggest good lighting. But if you want to add some romance space design, add one or two candles and light them up. (Make sure you blow out the candles when you finish with the space). Unless of course, you want some firemen to show up to give you some more inspiration for your romance fiction ... or action story.

If you have space, I always enjoy to have some sort of decoration. Something that makes you feel good when you look at it. For some people who love gardening, having their favourite flowers or plant that they grew themselves on their desk will be joyous to have in the space. You know what you love, so you choose the decoration to add. It doesn't have to be big or take a lot of space, especially if you prefer a clutter-free desk to work in.

I don't know about you, but I love writing to soft music. It is just my style. I can focus better with some background noise. But I can also just write with no noise. So do whatever works for you.

I also strongly suggest, you add a glass or bottle of water... a bottle is always a bit better in terms of if it gets pushed, it shouldn't destroy your writing, whether hand-written or typed.

So set-up your space. And if you are wanting more than one space. Create 3 different spaces and move around each time. There is nothing wrong with changing spaces each time you write. Sometimes, I literally sit on my couch and type away or hand write a story. Sometimes, I sit outside at my outdoor table and sometimes I sit inside. I also can be found writing on public transport, such as a train. Why not? With a mobile or small device, you can literally write anywhere.

I hope this has inspired you to set up a writing space for you. You might enjoy the 2-day fiction writing retreat at home.

Reshuffling my craft space for scrapbooking

When you feel uninspired change up your craft space  So I haven’t been scrapbooking as much because I have a set of drawers with stickers, washi tape and other cool stationery and then I have my tub of scrapbooking paper in my cupboard.  I was thinking about what I could do to bring my scrapbooking closer. Here’s a photo of my tub of scrapbooking paper. Look how undesirable it looks. Inside I have large paper about A4 size and A3. Then I have 12x12 inch paper. Plus an ice cream tub full of scrap paper.  It just made me feel unsatisfied and what makes me excited to work on a hobby is that I can see the resources and get excited to get started. But this set-up was not empowering me. I started brainstorming about maybe making a craft space. I found a table from IKEA with draws on both sides that I could put my scrapbooking paper and accessories in as well as my diamond painting. I also found a desk backing which is like a three level high shelving that attaches to the table....

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
