How diamond painting is an uncomfortable hobby for your body

So there are ways to perform diamond painting and sitting is the most popular choice. The problem is, most people can only sit for diamond painting for a maximum of 30 minutes. This is because, you have to look down bending your neck to find the numbers to place the drills (diamonds) on.

And as time goes, you might even crouch your back. Because the closer your face is to the diamond painting the easier and quicker it is to diamond paint. The problem is after 30 minutes, your neck and back are in pain.

Diamond painting is fun and if we could sit for longer to diamond paint, we could finish the picture so much quicker.

Here are some suggestions to help you with the bending/crouching over with your body.

An Art Board for diamond painting

Buy an art board that has a flat back. I don’t have one but I have heard from other diamond painting hobbyists that it really does help. Simply place the diamond painting against the art board. Some people add clips to the edges of the diamond painting and the art board and some people simply place it against the board. What this does, is it helps you look up for half the time. So you will still need to bend your neck to put wax on your pen and collect the drill. But instead of then still looking down, you look up to find the number on the diamond painting picture to place the drill. A relief for your neck. Plus, you will probably automatically feel the need to sit up straight. So your back will feel relief as well.

Use a stand-up desk for diamond painting

Another option, which I have heard is ideal if you do not want to sit. Is to use a stand-up desk. A stand-up desk, can go up and down whenever you want it to. Sometimes it’s a push of a button, othertimes, you manually lift it up and down. Standing helps you not sit down all day, which can be an issue for hobbyists (the problem being that we sit down all day).

Also, if you say, stand for 30 minutes, you can then sit down for 30 minutes and instead of only spending 30 minutes on diamond painting, because your body is now achieving transitions, you can now diamond painting for an hour. #winning.

Use a lamp for diamond painting

The other part of diamond painting that can cause eye strain, is viewing the small numbers and letters and in some cases it can feel very dark. I have even gone so far as to shine a torch on the dark colours to see what the number is. The way to overcome this, is to buy a lamp to shine over the diamond painting. This will aid with eye strain and also just the frustration of not being able to see the number/letter very well.

A grip pen for diamond painting

Buying a diamond painting grip pen is also ideal. Sometimes the kits come with a grip you can manually pull onto the pen. The grip helps your fingers rest comfortably, especially with the constant lifting of the pen to place wax on it and then lifting it up and down to pick the drill and then lifting it up and down to place the drill onto the diamond painting picture. So yes, a grip is ideal for your fingers. It also helps them from sliding down the pen. We use our fingers for everything, so why not give them the best opportunity to relax with a pen grip, while we are relaxing doing diamond painting?

A table clamp for diamond painting

The cool thing about diamond painting is the accessories to help with the hobby is growing. You can even buy a diamond painting tableclamp. This table clamp, holds down your diamond painting so it can’t fall or move around while you are diamond painting. A sure why to keep the diamond painting straight and together. This just eases the potential frustration that you could face.

A funnel for diamond painting

Now, a funnel to pour your diamond painting drills into, is also a good idea to aid frustration in spillage of drills. It takes absolute patience, to cut open the drills satchel to then pour in the drills into a drill container. So make life easier and buy a funnel to pour your drills into. Many people who diamond paint will tell you the absolute pain, when drills spill out on the table, onto the diamond painting getting stuck or falling on the fall. It is a pain to then slowly pick up each drill one by one. And let’s hope it is just one colour that spills and not multiple, otherwise that becomes even a bigger challenge. Not impossible, just frustrating. Some people just vacuum it up and buy more of those coloured drills that they need more of, but this does hold up the diamond painting being finished, but unfortunately that’s the only option. So yes, a funnel is ideal.

I hope the above helps you with your diamond painting hobby!

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket

So I decided that crocheting animals etc is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. And I found one. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant. So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled and realised after I do a row of single crochet stitches, I have to do one chain stitch at the end before ...
