Hobbies are fun! Even more fun is working out the space where you will place all your resources for your hobbies. Let's look at what storage solutions are great for your hobbies:

Draws for craft storage:

Draws are fantastic for small things (a lot of small items)... I use one set of 5-draws for some of my scrapbooking. Such as stickers, washi tape and other things like stationery, such as sticky notes, small items for scrapbooking such as cute beanies and buttons etc.

Inside the draws, you can create your very own sections to portion off different resources. See my blog post here on for some ideas on how to do that.

Whatever, neatly you can fit into draws, then do that.

Tubs for craft storage:

Tubs with lids are so important. Lids offer the barrier of no dust or grime to your resources. I use tubs for storing yarn, to keep it dust free and altogether. But for immediate projects I am working on, I just have it ontop of the tub. So it motivates me to keep going to use that yarn!

I also use tubs for storing scrapbooked albums. This is so important, because you don't want your albums and photos to get wet or dusty or eaten/pooped on by tiny creatures!

Storage Holders for hobbies:

You can get really cool storage holders, pending on your hobby. For reading books, if you have paperbacks, get an actual storage holder that can't just hold your books, but can hold about 20-50 more, as you buy more.

Also if you are wondering where to put this type of storage due to limited space, your living room or bedroom is the best place. Showcase those books in all their glory. Also, you may have a reading nook, if so, have the books close to that.

For diamond painters, you can get a storage holder that hangs over the inside of the door. To keep hold of your diamond paintings.

For crocheters, you can get a yarn bag to hold your current projects in. (I have 3 projects in one yarn bag at the moment. It can hold quite a lot!). Again, you can buy more than one bag if necessary.

For those who like to glue things, like miniatures

You can buy what you see in the hairdressers. Cool crafting trolleys. These can be moved to the side when not in use. But also great, for keeping glue and scissors. Plus other tools you may need.

If you enjoy writing:

Have a notepad and pen in every room of your home. Plus one in your bag. This means if you get an idea, you have something handy right there to quickly write down your thoughts and then get back to what you are doing. You might even write a whole chapter or character plot. Thoughts for stories and books, just comes, sometimes even when we are in the shower. So have something ready for whereever you are.

So you don't need a craft room. But you do need the storage to host your tools and resources for your hobby. Nobody needs to know what the storage is used for, so you can have it in your living room, if you do have a small craft space or shared space.

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
