New Year New Hobby Projects

Happy New Year! I hope this year is amazing for you!

I am very excited about my hobbies in the New Year. I hope to bring you even more cool hobby blog posts and cool hobby digital products at my Etsy store: MelanieToyesHobbies - Etsy Australia.

This is my hobbie projects for the New Year:

Diamond Painting

I am still working on one arty style one for the last year. I love diamond painting but I don't make time for it. This year, I am going to focus on finishing the diamond painting (about half way through) and completing another diamond painting. I have about 10 in stock. So it's going to take awhile, if I only complete one a year. So hopefully I will complete more but at this stage, lets just finish this diamond painting that has taken me a year! I may even frame it! Why not?

Crocheting

I look back at what I created in 2025 and I feel it wasn't as much as I wanted. Maybe that is a theme. I always want to do more. I have 2 blankets in work in progress so I want to complete them and may be two more adult blankets during the New Year.

I also would like to crochet a cloud, a wombat, a rhino and one amigurumi each month. At least one a month. However, I would like to make a few more of the same amigurumi within that month. I have some cool patterns from Christmas, which I would also like to make.

It is nice giving away amigurumi as gifts to friends and family on birthdays and Christmas. So I would like enough for everyone.

Reading

I love to read. I generally read eBooks. Last year, I was into buying second hand non-fiction books. But I have found I read more using my Apple Books app on my phone. It is definitely a personal preference. I also love seeing my paperback books in my home. I do love shopping for second-hand paper back books. But honestly, a good non-fiction book is the way to go for me. I love growth so I want to do more reading. Maybe a routine of 30-60 minutes a day.

Writing

Well you know me, I am always busy with writing and I keep getting (which I appreciate) more and more writing ideas! I hope to write and publish at least 2 books in the year. You can see my books for sale and where to buy here: Buy my eBooks!

I am also loving creating digital products for my Etsy store and aim to publish 2 products a week, mostly hobby based. You can view my Etsy store here: MelanieToyesHobbies - Etsy Australia

Scrapbooking

I just recently wrote about my new focus for the New Year for scrapbooking! So I have a big job ahead of me. Focus on updating my old photos and gluing them into scrapbooks and then scrapbooking them! However, focus on each year only choosing 10-20 photos of highlights throughout the year for scrapbooking. A new challenge in itself.

Paint by Numbers

I also decided to treat myself over Christmas and buy a paint by numbers set. I used to paint them years ago and have tried since then about one a year to complete a painting (and haven't). So we will see how we go this year. I am excited for it because I love painting and I love the end result, which is a cool painted picture that looks good to showcase in my home. I will keep you updated on progress in the New Year .... if you don't see a blog post, it's because I stopped part way through!

How I use my home for craft

So my home is decorated by my craft.  For example, I have a craft room where I store my craft supplies and have space to do my craft and then I have in my lounge room showing my craft creations (pictured above) and also storing craft supplies like yarn, where I love to look at and think about the possibilities of what I can do with my craft supplies.  It makes me feel good to come home and be surrounded by my craft.  And it’s ok to never have your craft room finished. For me it’s a work in progress. I am always changing it and my supplies and where to showcase my supplies. This is because my interests change. One month I may be heavily into crocheting so I don’t need a table for that, I can just sit on the couch. I really just need storage for my yarn and crochet needles and my half completed crochet projects such as draws to cater for these.  Another month, I may be into scrapbooking so I do need a table for this, my set of draws for the stickers and tapes and then ...

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
