Gift making and why it pours out of your emotions

I don’t know about you but I love gift making and as the New Year has begun, I am also already behind. Hah. What do I mean by that? I crocheted a year of gifts and gave them away at Christmas but now I have friends and family experiencing life events and I want to give them a gift from my heart. Through crocheting, I am gifting a piece of happiness from my heart to theirs.

And this is why even in today’s age, where you can even buy crochet gifts online or at the markets, it feels so much more when you make it and then gift it.

This is why gift giving, and any type of home made gift is just priceless.

See when we make something for someone who we think might like and appreciate it, we think about them throughout the whole project.

For example, first you think … I should make them a gift. And then you think what would they like? And then as you choose what to make … you think as you crochet the gift, they are going to love this. And you think about them receiving it, especially if they are going through a hard time right now. You hope it brings them joy, even for a small moment. Knowing that you shared a piece of your heart with them.

This is why when someone gives you a gift realise how special it was for them to think of you as they made it.

So what are you going to make this year? Are you going to think of your friends and family first and what they look and crochet something different for each of them and then at any point you can give them this gift (pending if you have made it or not yet).

Also, you can give them a gift for their birthday. I have friends who love to ask me if I can make them something and then they even find me a pattern! I find this a bit scarier because I want it to work out! But I still give it a go!

I do know if I say, look I’m going to be making something and let them choose it in their favourite colour. That means I can create something that I feel comfortable with but still designing it in something the love, their favourite colour. So win/win.

So what are you going to create this year for gifts for family and friends?

Is it going to be one item you make the same for everything but maybe in different colours? Or are you going to make everyone something different?

I would love to know in the comments of this blog post.

I have created a crochet planner for the year on my Etsy store. Check it out if you want to print the planner out and write down your crocheting projects for each month of the year. It comes as an instant download.

Reshuffling my craft space for scrapbooking

When you feel uninspired change up your craft space  So I haven’t been scrapbooking as much because I have a set of drawers with stickers, washi tape and other cool stationery and then I have my tub of scrapbooking paper in my cupboard.  I was thinking about what I could do to bring my scrapbooking closer. Here’s a photo of my tub of scrapbooking paper. Look how undesirable it looks. Inside I have large paper about A4 size and A3. Then I have 12x12 inch paper. Plus an ice cream tub full of scrap paper.  It just made me feel unsatisfied and what makes me excited to work on a hobby is that I can see the resources and get excited to get started. But this set-up was not empowering me. I started brainstorming about maybe making a craft space. I found a table from IKEA with draws on both sides that I could put my scrapbooking paper and accessories in as well as my diamond painting. I also found a desk backing which is like a three level high shelving that attaches to the table....

Crocheting my first blanket and how you can to

Finding a relaxing crochet project for beginners So I decided that crocheting animals etc. is pretty stressful. Not really stressful but not relaxing. A cool end result but I wanted to find something to crochet where I didn’t have to count the stitches or focus on the different type of stitches. So I decided to crochet a simple blanket.  I just wanted to use a small amount of stitches and not count them. I didn’t want to do anything fancy. But I still wanted to crochet. I believe if I could find something to stitch that I could just relax doing it than it was worth it. I started googling a simply blanket planet using single crochet stitch. It’s simple start off with the first row with a chain stitch and then turn it over and do the rest with a single crochet stitch. Brilliant.  Why single crochet blankets don't work without a chain stitch So I started crocheting a baby blanket. It didn’t work out. The sides were uneven and the blanket was all different lengths. So I googled an...
