Ok, so I like a tidy home but I am no where near those homes where you arrive and it's perfect, every single time.
Nope. I have just so much fun with my hobbies, that I will clean when I finish my hobbies for the day.
But I am trying something new ...
If you are like me, cleaning is a chore. I don't wake up and go, "Wow, what a day to clean!" No way. Not Ever.
So it might seem weird, but I definitely have to create a game or challenge for doing every type of cleaning. I do absolutely enjoy a clean and tidy home. And I find I am more at peace when it is tidy and my hobbies are away and so is the mess.
Here are three games you can play to get you cleaning:
1. Do one hobby and then once it's complete, do one cleaning task.
So for me, I love so many hobbies... if I really wanted to (and I try) I can spend my whole weekend doing hobbies. Generally writing is at the top of the list because that is how I share my hobby information and learnings. So I write one blog post (normally sit down to write 5 or 10 blog posts in one day) for 1-2 weeks of blogging. Then when I finish the blog post, I do one chore. It can be any chore that takes any amount of time. For example, it could be as quick as taking out the rubbish. Or it can be a bit more lengthy and washing the dishes. And then when I am finished with the one task (not the hundred waiting), I do another blog.
It also helps with me movement. Because I have to sit down and write, I don't get much movement in the day. So my body is able to refocus easier and quicker once I get up and do some movement for a short period. It means I end up with more energy at the end of the day, rather than less. Yes, read that again. The more I do mentally and psychically the more energy I have!
2. Before you start the day with hobbies, spend an hour cleaning
You know what will drive you and be the quickest hour of your life ... is you are so wanting to get up and do your hobby. That instead of starting straight away (which is what you want to do). You chuck on some music and clean for an hour and then once the hour is over, you can start your hobby!!
It's an absolute reward based challenge. The reward being once you are finished cleaning, you get to work on your hobby.
You will feel better starting your hobby in a clean space to really be able to get as creative as you want to be.
Just one hour and at the end of the cleaning hour, look around your space and go, "Wow, it does look good." Appreciate the cleanness of your space.
3. Clean during the week to keep your weekend free
If you really just want to wake up at the start of your weekend and do hobbies full time over the two days. No one is stopping you! Just spend 15 - 30 minutes each day during the week on cleaning. When you are just going to sit down and watch TV or scroll on your phone during that time anyway, why not give some time to cleaning?
Spending time during the week, will help reduce the amount of cleaning needed for the weekend. So instead of spending a few hours cleaning on a Saturday. You have already spent 2 hours and 30 minutes during the week.
Now you won't feel guilty and can fully relax in your clean space and most importantly, work on your hobbies!
Can you imagine, spending 2 full days on hobbies??? I can! Now have fun, you deserve it!
